The theme of this artwork is a soaring owl in the night sky, where the combination of blue and amber symbolizes the nocturnal scene. Set against the backdrop of a rising moon at the center, it depicts illuminated mountain ranges. The contours of the mountains cleverly utilize traditional Edo Kiriko patterns, such as the Chrysanthemum Crest and Octagonal Lattice, to create a sense of three-dimensionality. Through delicate cutting, the piece showcases the lifelike moment of the owl soaring and dancing.

As one of the rare Edo Kiriko works featuring a carved animal motif, the challenges faced during the creation process are considerable. Master craftsman Hidetaka Shimizu, proficient in the traditional art of Edo Kiriko, skillfully presents the artistic world of this piece using a sake glass as the canvas.
